The 5 important life lessons I learned from my dog…
You can learn a lot from being a pet owner if you are wise enough to listen. The average dog is by far smarter than the average person and in many ways, my dog is a far better person than I can ever hope to become.
For those skeptics out there:
- Who goes to work every day and who lays at home watching TV?
- Who has a mortage to pay and who lives for free?
- Who has to make dinner every night and who gets dinner served to them every night?
Starting to get the idea? Like I said, if you’re smart enough to listen then a dog can teach you a lot of things.
1. Stay in Touch with those you love.
Every pet owner knows what I mean and we have the dog hair all over our clothes to prove it. Dogs know that a simple touch from someone you love can make any situation better and sometimes make all the difference in the world. They appreciate the wonder and magic of a lick just because they love you.
2. Don’t Miss the Naps
While most of us can’t work into our schedules the 20-hours of sleep time that dogs enjoy, we could all benefit from taking advantage of some down time to relax and rejuvenate. There are few of us who are getting enough rest and many are subsisting on far less sleep than is really adequate. This is no way to live let alone thrive.
Dogs know that sleep should be high on your priority list-surely higher than laundry and cleaning although not higher than any food-related activity. Give yourself some down time and you’ll feel the better for it….ask any doctor and they will agree…..see the dog is as smart as the doctor.
3. Unconditional Love
It would be understandable if our dog took an instant dislike to us, I mean after all, we take off and leave them daily, we ignore them for hours on end, we feed them dog food, you get the idea. Does a dog hold it against you? Absolutely not, they love you despite all your faults. Bad day at work, gained a little weight, told a stupid joke in front of everyone at work, no matter, your dog still loves you.
4. Money doesn’t buy you happiness
Expensive squeaky toy? Shredded in minutes. Knobby ball? Lost in the bushes. Rubber bone? Shoved under couch. Frisbee found by the side of the road? Played with every day and stowed carefully on bed when not in use. Your old sock? Priceless
Dogs teach us an important lesson about gifts and money. Your time and attention are the greatest gift of all and with a little imagination and energy you don’t need any toys at all, any old sock and your attention will do.
5. You are never too old to play
People tend to forget that the need for playtime does not disappear when we leave childhood. There is no such thing as being too old to play and a good romp goes a loong way towards relieving all of that pent up stress. With age we may need to revise our choice of game, however, there should be no limit to our ability to have fun!
Where does a dog fit in on a Money Making Blog? I don’t know but I like to challenge the way I think from time to time and if you think about it, we’re all chasing the dollar. Many people are under the mistaken impression that money will cure all of their problems and maybe it will, or maybe it will create more problems. Maybe, just maybe we can all learn a lesson from one of the most content species on the planet earth?
Just a thought.
