DiversifyMany EPN affiliates are scrambling to find an alternative to Ebay since the QCP debacle and I am no different. I have managed to rebound pretty nicely between converting sites to Amazon and adding adsense to various sites but I made a promise to myself to never get myself in the same position that I was when the hammer came crashing down from Ebay. I had all my eggs in one basket, but I am not going to do that again.

So my latest experiment is an article directory. I have wanted to start one of these for a while to see if they can be lucrative at all but I never did, I was too busy building ebay affiliate sites. I took a few hours tonight and repurposed a domain that I was using for testing themes and such and built an article directory. I intend to build this into a first class article directory with a reasonably high standard of quality for articles that will be accepted here. If my name is on it, then I want it to be good. No spun junk or barely legible crap articles will be allowed.

hawzillathumbSo check out Hawgzilla! Yeah I love that name, and I think it might help the site with branding but we’ll see. I counted up the crappy article directories on the net and there are about 2 billion of them, so I have a lot of work to do to make mine better and different than the rest. If you are an article marketer or a site owner in need of content, then check out Hawgzilla! It’s light on articles right now but that will change very very soon.

  1. Nice setup. Awesome

  2. Bill –

I have an article site setup at howtoarticles + .net using the same setup. Check into Unique Article Wizard – there is a plugin that is freely available, and lets you publish unique articles from their publishers in a “Pull” scenario.

You “Pull” the content you want, automatically, and daily!

I think I pull roughly 15-20 articles every day, and after reviewing them, only publish anywhere from 1-3 per day, based on the topics and quality.

  3. There are so many crap articles being collected by crap directories that it’s a wonder they still actually exist.

I hope that more people employ your philosophy and ideas on how to run an article directory.

  4. I like it! The articles listed on the new directory from a quick glance at a few of them seem to be good articles.

  5. Also, to comment on your info about diversifying I think it’s always smart to diversity. Putting all your eggs in one basket for most things doesn’t work in the long run. I remember years back a big company which I won’t mention invested most of there SEO value on paid links and rented links. That was a huge mistake as it got knocked off Google and lost all it’s value when they got penalized and blacklisted because of it.

  6. There is certainly a gap in the market for a quality article directory site. Refreshing to see your focus in on high-quality articles rather than bulk articles regardless of quality. Good luck with your venture.

  7. Just found your blog here and also went to check out your article directory, I think you’re certainly onto something & it is surely going to be a big hit. I thought the articles that I did read were very good and informative. I also happened to check out your other blog, and I for one loved it, I’m not sure why you haven’t been posting more at that one too. Well who am I to make that statement? You have what 3 sites that I know of and I’m wondering why one isn’t updated lol sorry I’m sure you are very busy, I have a hard time keeping the one & 1/2 (lol) that I have going right now. But seriously I really enjoyed your blogs and am glad I found ya. Keep up the great work. P.S. I’m going to google what the QCP debacle was so I’ve got to go. Will definitely be back for more. jj

  8. Good looking site, gives me some ideas. One thing I would recommend is putting the adsense block on the left side of the intro text as oppose to the right side. Heatmaps constantly show thats where more people click.

  9. great info for us. i enjoyed the read keep up the good work!

  10. It’s been almost 2 months since you announced this site, so I’m just wondering how it’s going for you?

    Happy new year as well.

  11. Your article directory website is looking great my friend! Best of luck to you, do give us some updates on the blog here of how its going from time to time.

    Till then,

    Jean

  12. This looks like a great site and a great idea. Good luck with it.

  13. The great article about directory website Thanks for Share here I am from indonesia Friend Seriously learn about business online

  14. The most beneficial takeaway from this was the part about not putting all your eggs in one basket. I know people who have been hit HARD by a slap from Google (and in your case Ebay). Those looking to earn online must look at it like a business and with any business you need backup plans and hopfully MULTIPLE income streams. This way if one revenue stream dries up or goes away you can still survive and alocate resources to accomodate the new environment. Thanks for sharing your experience! I look forward to your new directory!

  15. Hey Bill,

I liked the article directory, so much so that I submitted an article about a week ago. How long does it take for you to authorize or reject submissions?
