Ebay Bans Digitally Delivered Items

ebay bans digitally delivered products

Looks like even Ebay is sick and tired of the e-book pimps. They announced yesterday that digital items will no longer be allowed on Ebay. I have excerpted the announcement below:

Brian Burke

Hello…This is Brian Burke, Director Global Feedback Policy. Digital goods are often reproduced at little to no cost to the seller. On eBay, this creates the potential for Feedback Manipulation (both real and perceived). To preserve the integrity of the Feedback system, effective March 31 all goods that can be digitally downloaded or transferred electronically must be listed using the Classified Ads format. Using the Classified Ads format, sellers receive a 30-day ad at a fixed price. This solution enables sellers to continue to market their digital goods on eBay; however, because Classified Ad listings are a lead generation tool and do not result in transactions that go through eBay, Feedback cannot be exchanged between buyer and seller.

Sellers who wish to continue to offer digital goods can do so by selecting the Everything Else>Information Products category in the Sell Your Item form and choosing the Classified Ads format (not auction-style or fixed price). For more information about the Classified Ads format, please read Advertising with Classified Ads.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Director, Global Feedback Policy

I am not sure why Ebay is in such a tither to protect their Feedback rating system as it has long since become a joke. The Ebay feedback is complete garbage and this will not change anything.

Instead what it does is remove an income stream for a number of loyal Ebay sellers. I am not a fan of the 99 cent Ebook but I do think they should be able to partake in Ebay the same way someone selling a 99 cent stamp or spool of thread or anything of the sort.

A number of sellers sell “auction templates” as well that are digitally delivered and this will affect them too. It doesn’t matter much to me as I don’t sell digitally delivered product but it will affect thousands and thousands of people.

I am not even sure how relevant Ebay is anymore. I have pulled back from my ventures on Ebay recently as the market is simply whored up. Great for the consumer but horrible for a seller and the fees that Ebay charges now have gone beyond ridiculous.

Definitely a Buyers Market on Ebay, which is the attraction. Anyone still sell on Ebay?

Damn lol, I wanted to get into flipping websites on eBay. Wonder if they’ll allow websites, or not as they’re digital too :(

@Jason – Nope websites are banned. Anything delivered via download or email is not going to be allowed, at least for now.

I swear I don’t understand what these Ebay execs are thinking. The explination as to why they are banning digitally delivered items doesn’t even make sense. How does how the item is delivered have any impact on the product itself? I am so frustrated at this point.

In my opinion, they are digging their own grave. Something better has GOT to come along!

@WAHM I agree. I have already closed my two Ebay stores and have gone elsewhere. Ebay is GREAT for consumers but for sellers it is nearly impossible to compete now.

Ebay is geared towards the big guys…..which leaves out everyone that made Ebay great to begin with. It’s a shame but they’ll get what they deserve, just like every other behemoth that got too big for their britches.

Can’t come soon enough in my opinion.

I guess it was all down to the low quality of the products that were being posted. The tarnished reputation etc.

You would have thought ebay would have a better solution than an outright ban though.
