samp9d59790f4de2e8f2.jpgIn this article we will discuss the subject of keyword density and proper site copy that will attract the broadest range of visitors to your niche website.  Proper keyword density combined with some backlink strength is the best way to make sure that your page stands out amongst the competition.

We previously identified your keywords in our Keyword Matrix article, which is the easy part.  The difficult part is how to incorporate these keywords into your niche site copy without the reader being annoyed by them.   Some take the easy way out and simply include their keywords in nearly every sentence.

This is quick and easy sure, but it has two consequences.  The first being your copy stinks and nobody will ever come back and the second being that Google will likely give you a keyword stuffing penalty.

 Either way, not good.

Experts disagree on the right “density” of keywords but you will commonly see recommendations in the range of 5-10% for keyword density.   No doubt this is a factor you should pay attention to but remember, keyword density is not the most important factor used by Google anymore, it counts but it isn’t worth writing a junk article.

Here is a simple step by step list of how I approach the issue.

Step 1.  Take two main keywords from your Keyword Matrix that we created earlier.  These should be words that you want to rank well for, your MAIN keywords if you will.

Step 2.  Write the title of the article and make sure that you include your primary keyword in the actual title. Some will try to fit the secondary keywords and if you can great, but if not don’t ruin your title trying to squeeze it in.   Maintain proper English and try to keep the title to around 50 characters in length.

Step 3.  Take advantage of the All in One SEO plug in and write the description tag using both the primary and secondary keywords.  Your description should accurately describe what your articles is about and should be around 200-250 characters long.

Step 4. Take great care to write the first paragraph so that it is a summary of the overall article and includes both primary and secondary keywords.   This can take practice at first but if you’re not sure how to do it you can Google a number of subjects….take a look at the site that is ranked #1…..I’d bet my bottom dollar that you will see a great example of good copy writing.

If you are experimenting or curious about keyword density and want to know how to check it for yourself then you can click on this Keyword Density Checker and find out how good your copy scores for your keywords.

The real truth is there is no debate of Good Copy vs Keyword Density, you need both.  If your site requires repeat visitors and you want them to bookmark your page then you need copy that makes sense and is readable and wasn’t autogenerated by a script or packed jammed full of the authors keywords.   You can accomplish both and it doesn’t need to be one at the expense of the other.

This is only a tiny little part of scoring well on Google searches, it can be quite a complex topic and it’s still one that I am learning.  The key is to experiment.  Every post you write you can experiment and measure your success.  Make adjustments and repeat and see what works for you.

Anybody do this differently…..feel free to share or link us to your article on the subject.
