As I sit here watching my beloved Patriots fumble and bumble away the Superbowl, I decided to check up on my stats to see how I was progressing.
As you know my goal is to monetize my blog with private ad sales so my “stats” are important to me. My last post about my Alexa was slightly more than a week ago, so let’s see how we fared.
At the time of the last update my stats were as below:
Before we see what the new stat sheet looks like let’s discuss what I have been doing in the meantime to drive the changes. It is nothing special but consists of a lot of little things that combine together to move the needle. A few of the things that I do:
That’s it, no secret at all. Just consistent work and utilizing the tools that are available to all of us.
I emphasize my stats so often because it’s that important to those who want to sell private ad space. Advertisers will only know you by the stats that you are able to produce on their ad networks screen. They don’t know your writing style or anything about you, you are a number. As such you should make sure your numbers are as good as they can be.
So where did I get to in the course of the last week? Let’s take a look.

So that’s my weekly stat update.
My short term goal for Alexa is to claim my sub 100k ranking for the 3 month average, attain a PR5 on the next update, and get my Technorati authority in better shape. I also want to see a 20k hit month from the Analytics. This will make my blog much more attractive to advertisers of all flavors. Stay Tuned.
Is my Alexa still beating up your Alexa? What are your goals for your own stats…..you have them right?

1Hits mean nothing. Unique visitors is where it’s all at.

2Brian…Nice Site. I will have to check it out more when I have time.
Hits, Uniques I sometimes use the words interchangeably, probably cause I am lazy and hits is quicker to type. The stats I quoted above are my uniques according to Google and Sitemeter. They differ slightly but not much.

4First, I really do enjoy your blog! Second, I had to comment as I sat here watching your beloved Patriots see their hopes stomped upon and their confidence shatter, especially in those last triumphant seconds. But getting to my question, what was the turning point that got your traffic to swarm? Was there one thing that stands out?

7BP - Ouch. It was a great game…your defense deserves a ton of credit. They absolutely shut em down.
As for your question I will be writing a post on the specifics of what I have been doing to drive traffic. I should have it up either tonight or tomorrow night.

10The traffic and Alexa rating are looking great! You’ve got a great blog. Oh, and the regular posting has been great. I love seeing something new in my reader nearly every day.
I’m surprised your Technorati stats are not higher…but that will come with time. Do you have any plans for increasing your inbound links?
Thanks for sharing. It helps to keep the masses motivated.

11Jim - Thanks.
I agree on my Tech stats. I make myself feel better by telling myself that I am only 60 days old BUT that’s a weak excuse. I can do better and I have a few linkbait type posts in the works. I have noticed the number of links has increased a lot lately so I think it will start moving.
As for my plan…a big part of it includes this post…. http://theblogentrepreneur.com/project-diy-niche-site-gets-underway
I am going to give away a Niche site, complete with template, income, domain, backlinks etc. I hope to be able to get it up to a PR2 at least before the project ends. Linking to me is going to be a prerequisite for entry but details are to be worked out.
Stay Tuned. I will be posting an update on it tonight.
