@Tom – I have to agree on the potential part. If I were him I would stop spending money advertising the site and spend more money on quality content. He’s not getting his money’s worth from his paid contributors in my humble opinion.

Hey Bill, I have followed Retireat21 for a while. The interviews are the main attraction. There is tonnes of potential and with Michael being 16, he has no end of time to get things going. hehe Bill. No need for any “ouch”! I don’t get offended. Actually, it’s probably not a good format for blogs anyhow, and no matter which niche. Especially since blogging is more personal. I’ll confess that when submitting to blogging directories, I got a little tired, and began to….well…..copy and paste *cringe*. There are a lot of my bios I should spend some time to change.

I DO know what you mean about seeing it in cases such as these.

@Tam – Ouch….I meant to say that I hate 3rd person About pages except for yours.

I think it bothers me more in the MMO niche as to me its a screaming red flag but for a normal niche probably not so much.

I don’t know, I stopped trying to figure me out a long time ago.

Honestly. The thing about the bios is your opinion, and don’t we all have them? They personally do not bother me (mine is in that format as well), but I understand people become irritated by what you call third-party description. For many writers it is just nothing more than ‘old habit’. When I was living over in Europe and I was going through the whole publishing game it was mandatory submission format. You will see established authors using it as they do it without thinking. I think that the USA has changed to a more informal format the past years, as society becomes more, ‘personalized’.

I look more at their realistic accomplishments, and you also mention this important aspect. Some will feel that they may not have accomplished as much as they would have liked, and they overcompensate by using this type of bio format. However, there are other reasons for it being used (mentioned above).

I think you presented quite a good review. Seems as though you used a bit of time on it.

@BC – You may have a point on that, the e-book signup is soooo overdone around the blog world that it’s not even funny. What grabbed my eye and what I liked most were the interviews with some millionaire and even billionaire young entrepreneurs.

These interviews give a lot of credibility in my eye.
