Is My Alexa Still Beating Your Alexa Up?

15 January 2008 6 Comments

I recently wrote an article about my Alexa ranking and how proud I was of the progress made since starting my blog.  Traffic makes the world go around in the blogosphere and that is even more critical for a Make Money Blog.  You can’t monetize a thing if you don’t have traffic…..it’s a simple and clear cut rule.  Advertisers want Alexa, Technorati and PageRank, these indicators (right or wrong) show your blog to be an “authority” site.

I have made it a point to stay away from PayPerPost type products so that I don’t affect my PR.  In case you missed it my PR was recently increased to a PR2 and you can read about it at that link.  I am pretty proud of this fact considering that my blog is only about 45 days old.  My “predicted” PR is a PR5 on iwebtool so (shameless plug here) make sure you comment on my threads, they are from a PR2 blog right now, PR5 on the next update.  (shameless plug over)

I have been very active in the blogosphere in the last weeka nd I wanted to see what kind of progress I had made, if any.  The charts below will show you my Alexa ranks, the first will show you my Alexa chart from my first update which was posted on January 11th.  You can see I am sporting a 1 week average of 198k and a total rank of about 517k…..not great but FAR FAR better than it was 30 days ago.  I started somewhere over 1 Million in the first few days.

Now let’s take a look at my NEW Alexa as of tonight, 4 days after my first update.   My 1 week average has dropped to 87k which is Awesome.  To give you an idea, under 100k is GREAT….under 10k would be a WOW moment.  My 3 month average rank has dropped to 447k in just 4 days.

 My Alexa
How am I doing this?

By being active socially, commenting on blogs, participating in discussion boards like www.blogcatalog.com and making sure I put my site in front of as many people as I can.   You won’t get participation, if you don’t give participation.  Be an active member of the blog community.

My goal is to be 5 figures within 30 days….and I am pretty confident I will do that.  Remember that Alexa works off a 3 month average so being only 45 days old I have a HUGE handicap to overcome.  If my blog had the same traffic that it already does AND were 3 months old, then I would already be at approximately 87k.

Once I have pagerank, sub 100k Alexa and some Technorati authority…then I can start making a case to sell private ads on the site.  These private ad sales will replace the money I miss from NOT doing Pay Per Post type stuff…..plus it’s far less work than writing spam posts about products nobody gives a crap about.

Has your Alexa improved in the last few weeks?  How does YOUR Alexa compare to MY Alexa?

Yes, your alexa is beating mine. But that’s because I’m not ready to promote my blog. At least i hope that’s the reason ;)

@Binh – good strategy. Build it, get content and then start promoting. I did the same thing the first month. Being as new as it is, I still need a lot more content but it’s a work in progress….I don’t try to hide that at all.

@Thomas – Thanks. I hope too achieve it.

@OP – Agian thanks. Beginners luck I guess.
