bessentials.jpgIn today’s dotcom driven world, the search for the ultimate domain can be as frustrating and fruitless as the search for the meaning of life.  We all know it’s out there but we just can’t lay our fingers on it.

I wrote an article about Hunting the Perfect Domain  a few weeks ago that briefly discussed monitoring expired domains for overlooked jewels.  I don’t visit these sites often but I will check in here and there to scan for something that grabs my attention.

 I usually use GoDaddy’s expired domain auction service  simply because they have the site layed out nicely and it’s easy to navigate but there are several others out there, including Network Solutions.  I don’t know that any have an advantage over another but I tend to find myself going to GoDaddy more than any others, even though I despise GoDaddy’s hosting service.

Typically when you read articles like this one, you will read the author recommending to look for domains with links, pagerank etc….trust me, these sites are rarely bought on the cheap.  If the site has PR and is any kind of domain name at all then the bidding will typically go skyhigh.  Occasionally you can find a diamond but I wasn’t so lucky.

What I did stumble across today was the domain “BloggingEssentials” and lo and behold it is even a coveted dotcom.  What a great name for a resource site for bloggers.   I did a few preliminary checks on it and found that the domain has no backlinks or pagerank BUT it is a great domain and it’s over a year old, so no Google Sandbox issues.

Using the term “sexy” might be a stretch but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, its a good aged domain name with no Google issues that fits a topic that I enjoy writing about, so for me, it was a sexy little diamond.

The best part of it is that it was a great deal, I personally think I stole it at a whopping 5 dollar buy it now.  Typically a domain that cheap is that cheap for a reason, and maybe this one is too.  It might not have much value to anyone other than me but I am still convinced it was a great deal and WELL worth the 5 dollars I paid.

My plans for it right now is to start a blogging resources site, full of those blogging tools that everyone always does a Google search for, or stumbles across on various blogs out there.  We’ll see where we can go, it might even make a great community blog with multiple authors….who knows.

I’d love to hear your ideas or feedback on the domain.  Is it a good deal or no?

  1. That IS a great buy. I tried to get a good one recently after it expired but it went to auction and the auction finished at 2am my time so I wasn’t the highest bidder *sigh*

  2. That’s really a great domain, you lucky dog you :D

  3. @Kalena – Thanks. My experience has been the same as yours, if it goes to auction then it can get pricey but this was listed as a 5 dollar Buy It Now. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like getting Microsoft.com or something but I still like it.

    @Tibu – Thanks.

  4. I think its an awesome domain name. Plenty of room to develop it. Keep us posted for when its up and running.

  5. Awesome buy, truly awesome. And now I HAVE to go and look at the site!
