Posted by Bill as Monetization

If you are interested in how to Make Money Blogging then we have something in common. I am introducing two new potential revenue streams into my blog today that I think will produce a decent return and you may be interested for yourself. I will write a follow up post in 30 days and detail the results.
I am a big fan of private ad sales when it comes to monetizing your blog and I am doing reasonably well with that strategy. I am also a fan of experimenting and trying new things as I don’t think any make money blog should put all of its eggs in one basket. If you find one decent income stream then don’t depend on just that, diversify.
The first potential income stream that I have introduced is Shopping Ads. If you notice at the bottom of each post on the main page as well as the individual post pages, I have a 468*60 ad block.
Shopping Ads is a 2 tier affiliate program that works very simply. You set up your campaign with keywords you want to target and the program generates a small snippet of javascript. You put this javascript where you want the ads displayed and then the program will serve up ads based on your keywords.
Shopping Ads will serve up both CPC and CPA type ads so you have some variety and they also have an affiliate program. If anyone signs up for Shopping Ads via your referral links then you also earn 5% of any revenue that they generate for the first 6 months. Not a bad deal by any measure.
Shopping Ads is simple to sign up for, simple to use and it can be used with Adsense as it is not contextual in any way. I also like that it is easy to blend into your blog and is unobtrusive so as not to ruin the overall feel of your site.
Give it a shot and see how it works for you, anything has to be better than Adsense.
The second form of revenue I am introducing is DealDotCom. I may move this around a bit but for now I have a 468 banner right above the comment box. This is very visible but only to those who are going to comment on my posts so I will have to work on that.
DealDotCom is a pretty cool idea, they offer up one deal for one day. The product that they offer changes every 24 hours so if you want it you need to buy it now.
DealDotCom is even simpler to use than Shopping Ads as you don’t need to mess with any keywords. Everyone sees the same product on the same day.
They also offer a two tier affiliate program where you can not only make money from your own sales but if you refer anyone to DealDotCom you will make money from them as well. The payout currently is 35% of the profit on sales from your own referrals and 15% of the profit from those that your referrals refer. The payout is good for LIFE. No cookies, no expiration.
This is a great deal for potential would be marketers.
The key to monetizing your blog is to introduce ad streams that are both unobtrusive but noticeable at the same time. I don’t like what adsense does to a blog and I think these two programs are going to work out great.
I am introducing these two today and I will let them run for the next 30 days or so. At that time I will write a follow up post and share my results with the programs. I am expecting some pretty decent results as I have already registered a number of click throughs to the ads so I know people are taking a look.
It’s only a matter of time before clicks turn to Revenue. If you’re interested in how to Make Money Blogging then I wouldn’t wait for my update, click on my referral links and give them a try yourself. Most people fail because they do nothing. Proven Fact.

2So, that basic ’shopping ads’ basic banner you have up above. Where did you get that? Cause I can’t find that one in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m being bold and daring, and trying it.

3@Tamera - I made it myself. I didn’t find any creatives on their site so I made my own. I can send it to you via email if you like.
If you want it just shoot me a quick email via my contact page or tbemedia at comcast.net
I would have sent it to you automatically but the email you left doesn’t look right.
Let me know and good luck….let’s compare notes and see how it goes.

4Thanks Bill. But, if you made it yourself, it doesn’t count as affiliate clicks, or registered as click throughs? Oh, the e-mail address is correct. The ‘no’ is Norway. I still have my original overseas hosting.

5@Tamera - No it will still count. You just need to hyperlink it to your affiliate link. You can find your affiliate link by clicking on the text at the lower left corner of the ad once you have it on your site.
Right click and save link and then just hyperlink your picture using that link.
I hope that makes sense…it makes sense to me. I can help you if you’d like. It is registering my click thrus as i tested it.
I will send it to you and if you can use it then great, if you want my help let me know and if not then no harm done.

6Hmm, i may just have to try shopping ads also :-). I hope I don’t start anything here lol, but would you consider custom making the banner to fit a particular site? or a reasonable fee of course
As for DDC, when you said you have to “work on it”, I hope you meant work on attracting more comments instead of moving the banner…..win-win for you. Think of the impulse racks at the checkout counter ;).

7@Dennis - Sure I can do that. Tell me what size you want and what email address to send to. You can paypal me whatever you feel like in exchange. I’m easy.
You can use my contact page if you want to keep your email private.

8Why would someone want to use Shopping Ads when they can just sign up for the eBay affiliate program and earn all of the commissions themselves?

9@ BC - I am a member of both and i use PHPbay extensively on other sites and I even have a few BANS sites as well but Shopping Ads has a few advantages.
One you can sign up other affiliates and make some money from them and two it is very simple to incorporate ads into your blog posts.
For your average person putting an ebay ad for a specific item or type of items is very difficult. You lose a small amount of the commission but you gain a ton of convenience.
That’s the way I see it anyways.

12This site is really helpful but then I have no idea on how to apply it on my own blog. See, I’ve been signing-up for blog directories to promote my blog but then their qualifications for approval is that they shouldn’t see any ads. So how do I promote my blog and at the same time monetize it? Also, I’m having trouble with the promoting my blog. I’ve done everything…comment on other blogs, sign in their chatter-box, etc. But nothing seems to work. What should I be doing or what am I doing wrong? Thank you very much!

13@Pau - First blog directories aren’t going to get you traffic at all. The only thing they are good for is to build backlinks. Nobody goes there looking for blogs to read….guarantee it.
I checked out your site and the first thing I would do is sign up for http://www.entrecard.com and use that to promote yourself and the 2nd thing I would do is join http://www.blogcatalog.com and find other bloggers there that might have an interest in your site.
Look for articles about social media such as Stumbleupon too. Another great way to get visitors that enjoy what you have to offer.
Hope these help. I know they will if you do give them a try.
