Good article that addresses a very real problem. Most people cannot think outside-of-the-box as they are mentally locked into their own personal circumstance and experiences.

If you battle to think of new niche ideas then this simple little Wordpress plugin may help you.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-frooglizer/

It grabs its keywords from Froogle (and also Google Suggest), and there will definitely be things there that you will not have thought of before.

Keep having fun.

@Jim - If you are going to build niche sites with the intention of making it a profession or at the least being very serious with what you are doing then I would positively, absolutely recommned SEO Elite.

It will tell you almost everything you need to know about your competitors for your niche including who they link from, what anchor text they use, the keyword densities of their sites, what they are doing PPC wise....it is simply an excellent tool.

It is just that though, a tool. It isn't the answer, it won't make you rich. It is like giving a guy who isn't a carpenter a really great set of tools. It won't make him a better carpenter but if you give a Carpenter a really great set of tools then he can really strut his stuff.

If you are dabbling in niche sites, I would not recommend buying it simply because it is expensive and you won't get your return on investment. You can find for free most of what SEO elite will do, you just need to go to 10 different sites and aggregate it yourself. Giant PITA if you ask me.

Make sense?

How good is SEO Elite really? I currently just use free tools to compare searches to results like the SEOBook tool. Do you recommend springing for these paid products, and how much do they actually help?

I think that's the way to start any business: Stick with what you know. It saves you a lot of time because you already know it instead of having to research it or pay someone for information. That's what I'm doing with my BANS sites compilation: find niches that I know and understand.

Flimjos last blog post..<a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/flimjo/HMUC/~3/305279976/" rel="nofollow">How Risk Hides the Uncertainty of Leaving the 9 to 5</a>
