Passive Cash Machine Niche Sites

31 May 2008 6 Comments

I have been writing about niche sites and the BANS software for a few months now so you know I am a fan of both. I enjoy blogging but it isn’t how I intend to make my money online. I blog simply because I enjoy it.

I was browsing my draft files today looking for a post idea and I realized it was the end of the month. If you read very many MMO blogs then you know they all love to post an earnings report at the end of the month to somehow justify reading the BS that they post. I hate em as they are for the most part ridiculously bogus and mostly fake.

I even posted one once but have never done it again, I might be weird but I just think it’s a desperate cry for attention.  So this won’t be an earnings report post but I do want to share with you the results of one of my niche sites. The timing worked out perfect because it went live on May 1st and it’s been up for a month now.

Passive Income

You know I am a big fan of passive income, who wouldn’t be?  Passive income is the deal!  After being an Ebay Powerseller for a few years you can bet that passive is where it’s at.   I want to build and develop niche sites that earn money with little to no input on my part. The site I am going to share with you is a BANS site that features collectibles from a popular movie.

That’s all you get for info there but it’s been up and running since May 1 with a moderate amount of promotion.

I don’t know how well you can make that picture out but you can click on it to see it full size. Let me describe what you are seeing. The site went live on May 1 when I stumbled it for the first time to get the spiders coming. You can see the blue line across the graph, that is the #clicks on the site and then the orange line is Earned Revenue from sales.

  • 4786 Impressions in May
  • 1488 Clicks
  • 14 Winning Bids so about a 10% conversion
  • $76 dollars in Ebay Revenue
  • My Share is $38.31 cents not including yesterday or today as they haven’t updated.
  • You could argue it’s a half month’s sales as the first sale didn’t come til the 13th.

I think the site will finish the month over $40 dollars in revenue as I have a number of bids going currently. Now let’s put this in perspective, $40 bucks surely isn’t a gold mine. I could probably open a lemonade stand downtown and make 100 times that much…but…..it’s ONLY the FIRST month.

Promotion has been zero, my link building campaign has barely started to show as it takes months for your links to season and be indexed. I don’t rank any higher than position 8 for ANY of my main keywords and I wrote two Ezine articles promoting the site, mainly to garner the links to get it to index.

Once my links age a bit and the site finishes indexing then who knows what it might do. Currently it only has 27 pages indexed out of several hundred so do that math.

Define Passive

The thing I like about niche sites is they are passive. What I mean by that is once I build them I don’t have to do a whole lot of work after that maintaining it. It makes money for me 24 hours a day.

The only thing you really MUST do to niche sites as far as maintenance is to monitor your keywords, build backlinks and tweak and optimize here and there. You can add more content if you want to or if you need to when a competitor passes you in the SERPS.

I expect this site once it fully indexes to produce at least 100 dollars a month once I am ranking higher for my main keywords.  This site didn’t produce a sale for the 1st 13 days as it was getting indexed and wasn’t getting any traffic.  My competition is pretty weak for my particular keywords so I don’t think it will be that tough. I am almost 40% of the way there and I only hold position 23 on one of my best keywords.

I think 100 dollars per month will be quite conservative actually based on some of my other sites.

The Power of Small Numbers

I recently wrote an article about the power of small numbers and that theory would apply to niche sites. 100 dollars a month is not going to be getting me to quit my job any time soon but let’s do some math.

  • 100*12 = 1200 annually.
  • Build 100 of these sites and that turns to 120k a year.
  • 100 sites sounds daunting but this one took me a day to build and a day to optimize.

So even if it takes 2 years of work to build 100 sites that produce this income wouldn’t that be a great investment of your time to build a passive 120k annual income?  For most people that would allow you the  freedom to come and go as you please.  You could travel and still make money every day.

That’ the DEAL!

Conclusion

It has been my experience that Making Money Online isn’t that difficult if you are willing to work at it. I am putting the time in to develop these sites today so that I won’t have to work tomorrow.

Too many people looking to develop an income are looking for a quick score and it’s no wonder. These affiliate marketers do a great job of making you think it is easy or that it can happen quickly or any of that other nonsense they spew.

The truth is that it isn’t that hard if you are willing to put some effort into it. It isn’t difficult but it takes time, at least it is for me. My income has steadily grown as I get better and better at finding good niches and developing niche sites that make money.

If you want to find out more about what I do to build niches then subscribe to my newsletter or if you are ready to take the plunge and get off your butt then go buy a copy of BANS aka Build a Niche Store software and start building some sites of your own.  It will cost you 97 dollars but you can build as many niche sites as you want, thousands if you wanted to.

The only thing stopping you is you.

@Bill – Do I understand correctly that it was a new domain? Or was it aged?

@Martin – did you mean banspodcast.com not pocast?

  • Bill said:

@David – No this particular one is a brand new domain. I check my site index daily because I am dreading that it will start dropping a few pages and head into the sandbox. So far so good but I am afearing the worse.

The domain is about 45 days old and it went live on May 1 so we’ll see. My paintball site was deindexed completely. I suspect because it was a .info. I normally don’t buy into mass hysteria but a TON of people in the BANS forums are reporting that all of their .info domains were deindexed while similar .coms were left alone.

I suspect the 99 cent domain sales inspired spammers to pick them up at a furious pace and G noticed the trend.

In any event David….brand new domain.

Love your philosophy regarding passive income. I write a lot about it, and I agree that it’s the IDEAL way to build wealth. Income has no practical value without time. Building passive income streams creates massive wealth in terms of money but also in terms of time.

I like this concept a lot. I have a team of people currently working on building many small streams of income. I tell you that it is fun to crunch the numbers now but I can’t wait for 1 to 2 years down the road when all that passive income is coming in:)

By the way, unless I am mistaken, I think that 14 winning bids would mean about a 1% conversion rate not 10%.

    Hi Bill,

Thats my whole goal with internet marketing…build passive income. Passive income will allow me to do the things that I really want to in life. I mean how great would that be. Work hard now, enjoy the fruits of labor later.

    Nice post
