I commented on a more recent post but didn't want to mention names, you have so now I will. garry has really lost me with this.
His post was exactly like those late night saucepan ads I think. Fair enough if he wants to advertise the book and make some money but he should label it as an ad. It certainly wasn't a review because he gave no real facts on why he thought it was good. And when people questioned about the subscribing he attacked back and even started putting ad copy in the comments.
He has turned into a John Chow... no information just trying to sell stuff, (even text links), he used to be really good with ideas and info but recent posts have proved it isn't that way anymore. Hope it changes.

I can understand your comments about IMers and the avalanche of info, products with long sales letters and emails that can be generated by the so-called gurus. A, without a doubt Pain.
But you need to research Joel Comm a little more and you will find him to be the
exception to the rule. One of the IMers that I don't mind studying and from whom I don't mind receiving online marketing information.
By all standards he can be considered a pioneer and if you can apply his theory with Adsense it will generate income...how much?...who knows what You are capable of.
The point is, I don't know who wrote his sales letter, but it is standard pyschological
marketing-- and I don't know who talked him into the downplayed upsell...but he has
corrected the purchase page so that you can opt out on the additional 29.00 a month.
program.
If you want to generate money online you cannot market and claim to be pure in your own intent.

Spot on. I spent a good chunk of yesterday unsubscribing to many MMO blogs that I read each day via RSS. I saved the few that seem to put out good info. I'm not in the MMO niche but read them to learn. My opinion is that the MMO niche is just a big cesspool for internet scum who pray on the newbies who don't know better.

One thing I found odd. Is it me or does that marketing graphic of Joel Comm above look like the latest book offering from Joel Osteen? When put into that context it's no wonder adsense secrets 4 turned out to be not what it was proclaimed to be. Hype, hype, hype followed by-send me money, send me money, send me money!

I don't even make it that far because I automatically suspect it as a scam and close the window. LOL.

I really appreciate the work you put into preparing this post. To be honest like you, "I have built up a healthy level of distrust for ANY product that uses these long “landing pages.” However, as you point out it's a playing the odds thing so I'm glad you peeled this smelly onion.

@Kay - Thanks...no question they are playing the odds and stand to gain a certain percentage of people who will "forget" to call or simply didn't notice until they get their first bill.

@Matt - Amen.

@SM - I can't stomach those long sales pages....I make it about 5 or 6 seconds and then start getting dizzy and click out.

Wow...I musta missed this one. But - this IS why I take so damn long to review things. People think I am nuts at times, but I really want to read what it is and get a grasp on it first.
Maybe that is a bad thing, but at least I am being honest with myself first, which in turn will trickle down to my readers.
We all make mistakes! That's for sure. I am glad PB edited his post to reflect that.
