Posted by Bill as Niche Sites
Success! It looks as though I acquired a domain name for the niche site that I will be giving away. If you aren’t familiar with this project then you can read about Project DIY Niche Site here.
If you’re too lazy to go read that article then basically what I am doing is creating a money making niche site from scratch right here for the readers of this blog.
I will find a domain, show you the keyword information, build the website, get it indexed, build some back links and monetize it all before giving it away to a lucky reader in a future contest.
A lot of blogs claim to make money with niche sites but few of them do. I will share everything with you piece by piece and you can see for yourself what works and what doesn’t.
Most of my future posts on this project will show up in my FEED only so make sure you subscribe before you go.
As for the domain that I selected, I am not going to reveal the name in this post simply because it isn’t official. I have not yet become the official owner of the domain and the previous owner can still lay claim to it during the next 7 days. It’s scheduled to be mine on 02/12/08 so after that I will reveal the domain.
I will share this:
If you are interested to find out how to acquire aged domains then you can read this short article discussing the subject or wait another day or two and I will have a complete write up of the process. Trust me on this, an aged domain is a gajillion times better than starting out with a new domain for a number of reasons.
Time spent searching for one with seasoning and backlinks will give you a big head start on your competition and allow you to rank much easier and higher. I wish I could find one with backlinks but if I did it would skip an important part of the development process.
That’s my DIY Project Niche Site update for now, remember future posts may be FEED Only so grab my feed and make sure you don’t miss anything. Love to hear about any of your own project niche sites that you have underway.

1Hey this is an amazing post. I will definitely be joining your RSS Feed. I have the same intentions but I could learn how its done first before pursuing the idea.

2This has to be THE BEST IDEA I’ve seen on a make money blog… PERIOD!
I hope that you realize you have just opened Pandora’s box, but definitely in a good way. This will be great and I’m sure that there will be tons of excellent comments and dialog built around this project.
Genius. I can’t wait to follow this unfolding story and read the comments and feedback!

3@Scott - Wow..thanks for the kind words. I will be sure to check your site out later tonight or tomorrow.
@Kyle - Best Idea Period sounds pretty good. I am glad you like the concept. I get sick and tired of reading the same blogs that tell you how much money they make, but never show you how they do it. I won’t make any promises on the site that we build but I will share all I know how to make one.
I am going to monetize using Adsense and Affiliate Income…specifically Ebay. I will share the info on the ebay affiliate software I use and more. If nothing else it will be interesting.

4Bill, I think that what is most exciting about the whole project, is that you aren’t making any promises. We will see what happens and all learn together. I went and read some of your previous posts after commenting here and realized this wasn’t the first mention of this project.
I’m definitely on board as a follower!

5Well, you have effectively grabbed my attention! Darren Rowe (ProBlogger) just posted “How to Create a Sense of Anticipation on Your Blog” and you should be his key example. Great job at making us all eager for the next post.

6@Kyle - It should be fun. The downside is this…no matter what the domain…it will only appeal to a select group of people. I must admit that it doesn’t have much appeal to me personally but it fits the criteria that I wanted for this project.
@Jim - I saw that post today. Darren is a great read. I don’t follow his site closely but I do have him in my reader. Thanks for the comments…I appreciate it.

10Hey David…I am finishing up the post tonight and I will publish tomorrow night. We will get started by revealing the domain and the niche and showing you a quick way to find a niche that will PAY.
The domain I am using for the project isn’t one of the real high paying niches but considering it will be given away for free it’s still not bad. It will make a decent Adsense site but the real value will be the entire article series to see how it comes together.
I am anxious to get started on it and I hope everyone is as interested as I am.
