Posted by Bill as Niche Sites, Ongoing Projects
If you’ve been following this article series then you know I am building a niche site out there in public for all to watch along and see. This project started a few months ago but I backburnered (other projects) it for the longest time and recently decided to pull my head out of my butt and get it done.
Any time you ever ask an Internet marketer to show on of their niche sites that allegedly make them all this money, they usually fall over and often have a hissy fit if you question them. That’s why I wanted to do this in public.
This will be a short update but I wanted to share the progress with everyone so you can see what is possible using the build a niche store software. I wasn’t a big fan of this in the past and preferred to use Wordpress and phpbay to build niche sites. That’s changed somewhat.
I am still a big fan of phpbay because I love the flexibility that Wordpress offers and I love the way search engines seem to be enamored with blogs. It is so EASY to get indexed and start drawing organic traffic with a blog.
What has changed is that I have now become a big fan of BANS as well. I had some old BANS sites that were still on the CJ program that started producing reasonably well and it made me revisit BANS and download the newest version of their software. It is MUCH better than the old version in my opinion so if you are considering BANS then I highly recommend it.
An idiot could build a niche store using this software and a little bit of HTML knowledge. You need to have a moderate amount of smarts in order to be successful in a niche though. Building the site is easy, getting traffic and converting is the tough part.
When last I updated I had just installed the BANS script which was only a few days ago. I wasn’t indexed and I had done literally NOTHING to the template so it was kind of generic looking and not very attractive. It also had absolutely no content on it. Keyword rich content is important for a niche site to draw traffic so be prepared for that.
Fast forward a few days later and now take a look at my cheap paintball gun site.
If you saw the first one or you know what a BANS store looks like when it is first brought into the world then you can appreciate how much better (IMHO) this site is now. I have the navigation bars in closed mode so while it may not look like much, when you click on the “Paintball Gun Articles” section you will find 12-15 keyword rich articles.
I have started the SEO portion of the niche site and have gotten it indexed by Google and I would expect more pages to be added to the index shortly. It takes a little bit of time to build backlinks although I am going to be experimenting with a program this week to speed that process up rapidly.
If it works as well as it claims and as well as I have heard then building backlinks will be a snap. I will share once I feel good about it. I am not going to tell you it’s great without trying it.
Nothing earth shattering to this update, just wanted to share the progress made so far and give an endorsement to BANS for those considering it. I have not been that big of a fan in the past but I must say that the software has come a long way.
Adding content isn’t anywhere near the chore that it used to be and the software is much more flexible as well. If you have any BANS questions at all, then feel free to ask in the comments or send me a note via my Contact page.
Have a great weekend.

1Glad to see this project picking up some steam, looking forward to see it’s progress.
I’m been phpBay man myself but it certainly does seem like BANS has improved. Probably worth a second look, couldn’t hurt to try/use both (execpt for the intial investment cost).

2@David - I’ve been a big ol slacker on this project to date. To be honest “blogging” was taking up so much of my time and that combined with day job was not a good mix.
No excuse though, if I wanted to have completed it I am sure I could have. I agree with you regarding phpbay….I like it and continue to use it today BUT I have to say the new version of BANS has come a long, long ways from the early days.

3The site looks great! I had no idea what to expect when you were talking about it months ago, but it works. Just sent it some stumble love to help you get it rolling. Good luck and keep us updated as this sounds like a great project to learn from.
