What Should I Do with Blogging Essentials?

blogging poll

Help

I picked up the domain BloggingEssentials about a month or so ago on a GoDaddy Expired Domain auction. I wasn’t really looking for a blogging domain but I saw it available and I liked the name so I grabbed it.

I’ve spent that last 2 months getting this blog up and running and to the point that I am comfortable with it so now I want to explore what to do with this other domain. I have a few ideas but I am a firm believer that the power of many is far greater than my little pea brain so I thought why not try a poll.

The obvious answer is to simply start blogging on it myself but I am not sure that I am ready to commit 100 percent to two blogs. Anyone who takes their blogging seriously can attest that it takes far more time than most people think to write quality posts, network and market the blog. I might be consider doing it but I have also considered a multi-author blog as well.

Premium Theme Site

I am leaning towards making it a Premium Theme Affiliate Site along with a Wordpress Plugin Repository along with a blog about blogging. This would be a huge project and I am not sure I am ready to commit that far but I am leaning this way. I know I keep reading about a ton of blogs about blogging but is there an 800 lb gorilla in that niche?

Who has the top blog about blogging?

Enough chitter chatter so let me get to it. I need and want your help…..what should I do with Blogging Essentials? Sell it? Use it for a contest prize? Sit on it? Develop it? What?

    Bill,

Tough choice, seems like you have good thing going here. There is only so much time in a day. However, sometimes its not bad to hedge your businesses with another.

    1) Start blog. Use premium theme, timestamp series of killer articles.

    2) Run huge contest, get RSS numbers up to 200 – 300.

    3) Develop revenue through selling ad spaces, based on traffic and subscribers (as a result of the contest)

    4) Sell on Sitepoint for a couple thousand if not more :D . See the recent example of SEONoobs.com, or even older examples like Cashquests, Blogging Fingers, Sitefever… etc. ;)

    Good luck!

@Jason – I missed the SEONoob sale. How much did he sell that one for? A couple thousand is chump change though, I am not interested in turning a blog for that little amount of money.

I’d much rather build a revenue stream that could last. If I could build it to the point it might be worth 5 figures then we’d be talking but a few thousand dollars isn’t worth it, at least to me.

VOTED at first place….don’t sell it…make it happen

Well, obviously its entirely your choice but id go with the premium themes site with a blog. Another blog about blogging wouldn’t make that much sense, in that the market is already way too saturated so to make the site a success in that niche would be ten times easier than making a living with a premium wordpress themes site.

Good luck with the decision, and keep us updated as to what you will do with it. And if you do decide to sell it on, drop me an email first, as id be interested in purchasing it if it went up for sale.

I like the idea of a Premium Theme Affiliate site – perhaps reviews/ratings, interviews with developers. I have enjoyed some of the posts at themeshaper.com along those lines.

    @ Bill, SEONoobs.com sold for $4,500 after it’s first month. :)

Wow…what kind of dummy would pay 5k for 30 day old blog?

Kudos to Ryan for making it happen.

  • Bill (author) said:

@Andy – Will do but I am more inclined to keep it.

@ David – Yeah I think you are right. I think that could make for a very interesting blog although I would have to see how the “designer” niche would accept me as I am not a designer. It could be pretty cool though the more I think about it.

I’m actually in the same boat as you, i foolishly started several blogs at once, and now i’m drowning in too much work.

After reading this post, i have decided to sell one of my blogs, and concentrate my time and efforts on just my main two. I have some work and promo to do to sell the one blog, at a decent price and get what i want for it.

As for your dilemna, if you have the time (and energy) go ahead and develop BE, but if not i would advise you to sell it and concentrate on building this one to its fullest potential.

@Missy – Are you a blogaholic too? Which blog are you going to sell?

I can do it, I just need to prioritize and use my writing time efficiently. I am looking forward to the challenge.

  • Missy said:

Yep, im a blog-o-holic, too. LOL.

I’m going to set up http://www.GroovyChicago.com to sell. It is a PR 3 blog with loads and loads of backlinks, plus some Adsense pennies.

Those are the main selling points right now, i will have to work on improving the traffic and stats to sell it good. I don’t have any energy for it, i cant manage three blogs. It is way too much work.

What would you say it is worth, as of right now? Feel free to send me a private email, if you don’t care to share here.
