Wordpress Plugin to Increase Your PageRank

5 January 2008 3 Comments

pagerank.jpgOk so maybe the title is a bit misleading as a plugin surely won’t bestow you any page rank, but it can help you acheive that which you desire.

PageRank….it’s a blessing and a curse. A blessing if you have it and a curse if you don’t. It can be especially critical if rely on search engine traffic for your site.

If you want to improve your chances at increasing your pagerank in about 10 minutes then I suggest you keep reading.

Google’s algorithm for pagerank is a more closely guarded secret than the recipe to Kentucky Fried Chicken, but one thing nearly everyone will agree on is that “links are good”.

The more relevant links you have the better, but did you know that there are two kinds of links? Internal and External links.

External links are the links that point to your site from another site. Internal links are the links that you use within your own site, linking from post to post etc. These links allow the googlebots to traverse your site more easily AND they give some of your older posts more weight. These links couldn’t be any more simple to acquire yet many WordPress users don’t take the time to do it correctly.

Google figures the more links that point at a particular post or page then the more important it must be…therefore they assign it more pagerank. Google likes links, readers like links….it’s a win win situation for you.

This brings me to the Related Posts plug in….which you can see at the end of this post. This plugin will create links to other posts on the bottom of every single post you make….so essentially the more you blog, the more links you create, the more “authority” your blog has in the eyes of Google.

The added benefit for both you and your readers is that your blog readers will also be exposed to your “older” material. Normally as your blog matures, some of your best material can be buried in the archives, the related posts plugin will bring that to the surface everytime you write a new post.

Let’s do some math…let’s assume you write 4 new posts per week and that you have 5 related posts at the end of each new post. This is 20 new links per week or over 1000 links in a years time, for NO extra effort at all. You can’t beat that…you can get the plug in here that uses WP2.3 tags or here that uses keywords.

Do yourself a favor and get it installed today.
